When my friend recommended this books to me, she said that it will show me a different perspective on things. Little did I know that this was going to be a love story, and not your typical one either.
Synopsis

Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard and for the life she really wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
Review
Reading young adult novels have been a thing of the past for me. I used to read a lot of YA as a teenager. As I grew older and had the naive optimism sucked out of me by life, I was drawn to the cheesiness of YA no more. It was recently that a friend at work suggested that I try “It ends with us”.
Going by the synopsis, I thought this would probably be one of those classic love-triangle stories of YA. But boy was I wrong! This book goes beyond boy meets girl and delves into the depths of what loving a person really means. It is a book that will fall heavy on your heart and leave you a different person than when you started the book. The story flows brilliantly and there is no put-down moment where you can stop reading to get back to it later. When you start the book, you will not stop until you finish the story.
The timeline spans over years, giving us a good look into how each character has develops as the story moves along. It is very hard to provide a review without spoilers because I have so much to say but can’t begin unless I tell you a spoiler. I will refrain myself from spoiling this book for you. But I will say this: it is a very powerful story and one that everyone must read. I have never read a Colleen Hoover book before “It ends with us”, but if her other books are as amazing as this one, consider me a fan.
The power of this books comes from the fact that there is no black and white characterisation, it goes much deeper than that. The characters are complicated and the plot is very emotional. It is a very honest book that has succeeded in helping us understand a situation which makes no sense to most people. This is a bold and personal story, not only to Hoover but to me as well. This heart-wrenching story combines a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters.
This is a book that needs to be read and I would suggest everyone should read it. It would be better if you went into the book without knowing anything. But if you are the type that has already read other reviews and spoilers, I would still recommend you read it, as the journey is the interesting part.
